Leadership Change at Western Naval Command

The Western Naval Command held a formal ceremony today as Rear Admiral M.B. Hassan handed over command to Rear Admiral Mike Oamen. The event marked the end of Rear Admiral Hassan’s tenure as the 44th Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), a position he assumed on 11 October 2023.

The farewell parade, held in his honor, was attended by senior officers from the Nigerian Armed Forces, para-military agencies, heads of federal parastatals, industry leaders, and retired officers. During his farewell address, Rear Admiral Hassan urged the officers of the Command to extend the same level of support to his successor, emphasizing the importance of continuity in leadership.

In his remarks, the incoming FOC, Rear Admiral Oamen, called on the Command’s principal staff officers, ship commanders, and unit heads to maintain their vigilance in combating crude oil theft and maritime crimes, promising to uphold the Command’s high operational standards. The ceremony reinforced the Navy’s commitment to ensuring the security of Nigeria’s maritime domain.
