Makinde confirms Oyo park attack, says five forest guards killed

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has confirmed the killing of five National Park Service forest guards following an attack by suspected bandits at the National Park Office in Oloka Village.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the governor described the incident as a devastating loss, noting that the officers were killed in the course of performing their lawful duties. He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the repose of their souls.

According to Makinde, preliminary findings by security agencies indicate that the attack was a cross-border operation carried out by armed bandits. He said security agencies are working collaboratively to investigate the incident and have appealed to residents of the affected communities to cooperate by providing useful intelligence.

The governor urged residents, particularly those in Oriire Local Government Area and other border communities, to remain calm, assuring them that normalcy has been restored. He added that additional security personnel have been deployed to the area and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to taking decisive measures to prevent a recurrence of such attacks.
