Manifold Media, publishers of the African Angle newspaper, has expressed grief over the death of Arise TV journalist, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who was killed during an armed robbery at her Katampe residence in Abuja on Monday, September 29.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its Executive Director, Seun Akioye, the organisation condemned the hospital where Maduagwu was taken, alleging that she was denied treatment until a police report was produced.
Describing the hospital’s conduct as “ungodly,” Manifold Media said the negligence was as culpable as the actions of the armed robbers. “While all humans must die, death unholy, unwelcome, untimely, preventable, is totally unacceptable,” the statement read.
The group also decried worsening insecurity in the nation’s capital, noting that despite Abuja’s heavy security presence, both the system and institutions failed to protect the young journalist.
Maduagwu, a trained lawyer and passionate journalist, sustained fatal injuries during the robbery. Manifold Media described her as a “rising star and shining light whose promise for the future of journalism has now been dimmed.”
The organisation extended condolences to her family, Arise TV, and the wider journalism community, saying her warmth, talent, and voice left a lasting impact on colleagues and audiences alike.
