Sustained offensive operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI have compelled 17 family members of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) terrorist group to voluntarily surrender in separate incidents in Borno State, further highlighting the impact of intensified military operations across the North-East.
The Joint Task Force disclosed that the surrenders occurred on August 4, 2026, in Konduga and Bama Local Government Areas, with the individuals attributing their decision to the relentless military pressure mounted on terrorist enclaves.
In the first incident, at about 9:15 a.m., troops of the 222 Battalion conducting a domination patrol along the Gezuwa axis in Konduga Local Government Area received the surrender of 16 JAS family members comprising 10 women and six children.
During preliminary debriefing, the group said sustained offensives by troops against terrorist hideouts forced them to abandon the insurgents and surrender. Security personnel also recovered ₦92,000 from the group during the process.
In a separate incident at about 12:04 p.m. the same day, an 11-year-old JAS family member voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 202 Battalion under Sector 1 in Bama Local Government Area.
Military authorities said the minor similarly attributed his decision to surrender to the sustained operational pressure being maintained against terrorist elements within the theatre of operations.
The surrendered individuals are currently in military custody, where they are undergoing preliminary profiling and debriefing before being handed over to the appropriate authorities for further screening, rehabilitation where applicable and other administrative procedures in line with established guidelines.
Operation HADIN KAI said the latest surrenders underscore the effectiveness of ongoing military operations aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves, disrupting insurgents’ communication and logistics networks, and denying them freedom of movement across the North-East.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive offensive operations against terrorist groups in the region, maintaining that troops would continue to dominate key operational areas, intensify pressure on insurgent strongholds and facilitate the safe and voluntary surrender of those willing to renounce terrorism in accordance with established procedures.
