The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Retd), has emphasized that a nation’s strength is directly tied to its military capabilities in defending its territorial integrity.
According to Acting Deputy Director 6 Division Army Public Relations Lieut. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, he made this statement during the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Special Eid-El-Fitr Luncheon with troops at the 29 Battalion Parade Ground, Port Harcourt Barracks, on 31 March 2025.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibiba Lucky Worika, Ibas commended the Nigerian Army (NA) for its resilience and adaptability despite economic and security challenges. He stressed the need for both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches in addressing security threats and lauded the troops’ efforts in safeguarding vital oil and gas infrastructure in the Niger Delta Region. These efforts, he noted, have significantly contributed to increased oil production and economic stability.
In his goodwill message, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, highlighted the significance of unity and peaceful coexistence, especially as the Ramadan and Lenten seasons coincided in 2025. Represented by Major General Kevin Aligbe, Commander of Training and Doctrine Command, Oluyede underscored the Nigerian Army’s core values of selflessness and patriotism, urging troops to remain steadfast in their service to the nation.
Reaffirming his commitment to improving operational capacity, welfare, and combat readiness, the COAS reminded personnel of their crucial role in national security. He emphasized that their dedication aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s strategic objectives, which prioritize national security and sustainable development.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, NA, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, expressed appreciation for hosting the event, noting that the luncheon aimed to recognize the sacrifices of troops in the field. Represented by Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, Commander 6 Division Garrison, Emekah highlighted the positive impact of military operations on the nation’s economy, citing a steady increase in oil production. He urged troops to sustain their momentum while assuring Niger Delta residents of continued operations in line with global best practices.
