The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, on Monday received the Minister of State for Works, Alhaji Bello Muhammed Goronyo, at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
The visit centered on ongoing rescue operations following the boat mishap of Sunday, 17 August 2025, in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, as well as broader flood-related challenges currently affecting the state.
Mrs. Umar assured the Minister that rescue efforts in Goronyo would be sustained and intensified, reaffirming NEMA’s commitment to effective disaster preparedness and response across the country.
In his remarks, Alhaji Goronyo commended NEMA’s swift intervention in the Sokoto incident and other emergencies, while urging the Agency to consolidate progress in strengthening Nigeria’s disaster management system.
