NAF Air Strikes target illegal oil refining operations in Rivers

In a concerted effort to curb the activities of crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism, the Air Component of Operation Delta Safe executed precision air strikes on illicit oil refining sites situated at Krakrama and Temakiri within the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State. Both sites, strategically located approximately 50 kilometers southwest of Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, were targeted on March 1, 2024.

According to Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, reconnaissance missions revealed active illegal oil refining operations at both Krakrama and Temakiri.

Additionally, Cotonou Boats were observed in close proximity, suggesting an intent to unlawfully siphon crude oil from these sites. Consequently, the Air Component swiftly engaged, successfully neutralizing the illegal refining facilities and associated vessels, resulting in their complete destruction by engulfing flames.

Further reconnaissance extended to the areas of Abisse and Omoma, uncovering abandoned illegal refining sites, indicative of previous illicit activities.

The Nigerian Air Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains steadfast in its commitment to eradicating the scourge of oil theft within the Niger Delta region. These efforts will persist until the objectives of total eradication and restoration of security are accomplished.
