In a resounding display of power and precision, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) unleashed a barrage of airstrikes on the hideouts of terrorists nestled in the remote Tumbun Fulani and Tumbun Shitu regions, bordering Lake Tchad in Borno State. These relentless operations, conducted between September 27 and September 30, 2023, have successfully dismantled the terrorists’ strongholds, reducing their structures to rubble and obliterating their critical logistical bases.
According to Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the decision to strike at Tumbun Fulani and Tumbun Shitu came after credible intelligence reports revealed that the terrorists operating in these areas posed a significant threat not only to military establishments but also to the peace and security of law-abiding Nigerian citizens residing in these regions.
He said at Tumbun Fulani, NAF surveillance identified terrorists clandestinely loading jerricans onto two concealed guntrucks, strategically hidden beneath thick shrubbery. Swiftly, NAF aircraft were deployed to intercept this location, suspected to be a vital logistical hub for the terrorists. After the strike, a thorough Battle Damage Assessment confirmed that numerous terrorists were neutralized, and the guntrucks were reduced to smoldering wrecks.
Gabkwet added that a similar airstrikes were carried out at Tumbun Shitu, where suspected terrorist hideouts were discovered concealed beneath dense foliage. Notably, three guntrucks carrying terrorists were observed moving towards the area, further necessitating immediate action. Following the airstrikes, the aftermath revealed a significant number of terrorists neutralized, and the menacing guntrucks were reduced to ashes.
He said these relentless actions underscore the unwavering determination of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to curtail terrorist activities not only in the Northeast but also in other parts of the nation. The operational successes achieved by the AFN are a testament to the enhanced synergy and cooperation among all security agencies, as well as the unyielding support of patriotic Nigerians.
He said the Nigerian Air Force remain resolute in their commitment to safeguarding the peace and security of the nation, and they will continue to take proactive measures to protect citizens from the scourge of terrorism.
