The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has received widespread commendation for honouring all commitments made to victims and families affected by the accidental airstrike in Dangebe Village, Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, which occurred on 11 January 2025.
In the aftermath of the tragic incident, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, deployed a high-level committee for fact-finding and later visited the affected community on 6 March 2025 to extend condolences and announce a series of relief measures.
During the visit, Air Marshal Abubakar pledged financial support for bereaved families, reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, replacement of destroyed motorcycles, and provision of a borehole to enhance access to clean water in nearby Kambarawa Village.
In a move praised as empathetic and accountable, the NAF has now fulfilled all its promises. The damaged building in Dangebe has been rebuilt, two motorcycles replaced, and a new borehole successfully drilled and commissioned, benefiting hundreds of residents in Kambarawa and surrounding communities. Financial compensations have also been fully disbursed to the victims and families.
Community members and local leaders have lauded the NAF for its responsiveness and sincerity, describing the intervention as a step toward healing and rebuilding trust. The gesture, they said, demonstrated the Service’s commitment to human dignity and its willingness to take responsibility.
“These actions underscore the Air Force’s professionalism and its dedication to protecting and supporting Nigerian lives,” said Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information.
The NAF reaffirmed its commitment to minimising civilian harm, upholding human rights, and fostering enduring civil-military relations. It reiterated that safeguarding citizens is not only a constitutional duty but a sacred trust—one that demands transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to operational standards.
