The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has sustained intensified air operations in Zamfara State, disrupting terrorist activity and denying criminal elements freedom of movement in several areas across the state.
The latest operation followed credible intelligence on terrorist movements around the Bayarzaki River area on August 12, 2026, prompting the deployment of an NAF A-Jet on an armed reconnaissance mission.
During the operation, the aircraft conducted extensive surveillance over Bayarzaki and surrounding locations, including Ruwan Rana, Sabli, Kada Daba, Kwana Maje, Nasarawa, Rafin Gero, Ramfashi and Mumuma Hill.
Further intelligence indicated the presence of suspected terrorists concealed south of the riverline, leading the aircraft to engage the identified location from the air.
According to the NAF, no further movement was observed following the engagement, as the aircraft maintained an aerial presence over the area before safely returning to base.
The operation underscored the Air Force’s intelligence-led approach to counter-terrorism, combining surveillance, intelligence assessment and precision air response to emerging threats.
The NAF said every sortie involved coordinated efforts by intelligence personnel, aircrew, mission planners, engineers, logistics personnel and other specialists to transform actionable intelligence into timely operational responses.
By maintaining persistent aerial surveillance and responding to suspected terrorist movements, the service continues to provide critical air support to ground forces conducting security operations across the country.
The sustained operations are particularly significant for communities affected by terrorism and other forms of insecurity, as the military seeks to restrict the operational space available to criminal elements and protect civilian populations.
