NAFDAC backs launch of national single window for trade

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has expressed support for the Federal Government’s planned launch of the National Single Window (NSW) for Trade, a digital platform aimed at modernising Nigeria’s trade and port operations.

The Federal Government is scheduled to launch the system on March 27, 2026. The initiative is designed as a centralised electronic platform that integrates all government agencies involved in import and export processes into a single portal, allowing traders to submit documentation once for processing and approval by relevant regulatory bodies.

NAFDAC, the agency responsible for regulating food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, chemicals and packaged water in Nigeria, said it has played a significant role in the development and operational readiness of the system.

According to the agency, years of investment in the digitisation of regulatory services—such as electronic platforms for product registration, permits, inspections and import and export clearances—have positioned it for seamless integration into the National Single Window framework.

In preparation for the rollout, NAFDAC said it has aligned its digital platforms with the new infrastructure, updated operational guidelines and standard operating procedures, strengthened collaboration with partner agencies and conducted staff training to ensure effective use of the platform.

The agency also noted that relevant regulatory information has been updated on its website to guide stakeholders through the new procedures.

NAFDAC urged importers, exporters, manufacturers and other stakeholders involved in the trade of regulated products to familiarise themselves with the platform and comply with the updated regulatory processes.

Director-General of the agency, Mojisola Adeyeye, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public health while supporting national economic growth through efficient, transparent and technology-driven regulatory systems.
