NDLEA foils drug trafficking attempts to UK, Italy, Turkey, Qatar

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted multiple drug consignments destined for the United Kingdom, Italy, Turkey, and Qatar through Lagos and Abuja airports. The operations, conducted with intelligence-led precision, resulted in significant arrests and seizures of cocaine, methamphetamine, and opioids.

At Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport on November 5, operatives seized 13 parcels of cocaine (4.4 kg) bound for the UK via Frankfurt. The suspect, Ekeocha Anayo, was apprehended three days later. Separately, Adegbite Solomon (aka Obama) was arrested attempting to smuggle opioids, including tramadol and codeine, to Italy. Another suspect, Anoke Kingsley, was detained at the airport with 1,100 tramadol pills en route to Turkey.

In Abuja, two suspects preparing to traffic 1.8 kg of methamphetamine to Qatar were arrested during a hotel raid, while in Lagos, operatives seized another 1.8 kg of methamphetamine following weeks of surveillance.

NDLEA also disrupted smuggling routes, intercepting 50,000 tramadol pills concealed in a vehicle arriving from Ghana and confiscating 997 kg of cannabis during raids in Edo State. Arrests and drug recoveries were also recorded in Kano, Kwara, Imo, and Oyo states.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), lauded the agency’s officers for their success in combating drug trafficking while continuing sensitization campaigns against substance abuse nationwide.
