The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two alleged drug kingpins, Victor Nwosa and Felix Obiegbu, following the discovery of large consignments of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine at their Lagos residences.
The suspects, aged 64 and 49 respectively, were taken into custody by operatives of the agency’s Special Operations Unit after weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance. According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, Nwosa, who posed as a textile merchant, was arrested at his Okota home where 4.33 kilogrammes of heroin and 448 grammes of cocaine were recovered. Obiegbu, known publicly as a wine distributor, was picked up at his Surulere residence, where 2.9 kilogrammes of methamphetamine were seized.
In a nationwide sweep, NDLEA operatives intercepted multiple drug consignments across states. In Borno, 26-year-old Baba Kaka Ibrahim was arrested with over 39,000 tramadol and exol-5 pills hidden in a car’s engine compartment, while in Yobe, two women were caught with parcels of Colorado cannabis concealed in luggage. Similar operations in Kano, Bayelsa, Ekiti, Kaduna, Gombe, Lagos, Abuja, and Edo states led to arrests, seizures of thousands of pills, and the destruction of cannabis plantations covering over nine hectares.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the operatives for their successes, noting that the arrests and seizures underscore the agency’s commitment to protecting public health and national security. “Every gramme of these dangerous drugs we seize and remove from our streets reinforces our determination to protect our youths, disrupt criminal networks, and strengthen national security,” Marwa said.
