Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, have intercepted a large consignment of illicit drugs in the Badawa area, ahead of the upcoming Sallah celebrations.
According to Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, acting on credible intelligence, the command recovered 75,000 capsules of pregabalin, 556 bottles of codeine, and quantities of loose Cannabis sativa, in an operation led by Commander DY Lawal.
Lawal described the seizure as a major disruption to the operations of local drug cartels, emphasizing that it would have supplied illicit markets across the state. The prime suspect linked to the consignment remains at large but is reportedly under close surveillance as authorities pursue his arrest.
“This seizure is a serious blow to the cartel’s network and protects the good people of Kano from the harms of these illicit substances,” Lawal said. “In line with the directives of our Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), CON, OFR, we remain committed to a drug‑free society and will not relent in this fight.”
The NDLEA Kano Strategic Command also expressed gratitude to members of the public for their cooperation, urging residents to continue providing actionable intelligence. The agency warned that individuals involved in drug trafficking will be relentlessly pursued.
Members of the public with information on drug-related activities are encouraged to contact the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command through official channels.
