The Network for the Actualisation of Social Growth and Viable Development (NEFGAD) has urged the Federal Government to investigate what it described as troubling administrative lapses at the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by its Acting Head of Office, Barrister Blessing Unekwu Ojo, the group expressed concern over what it called “disturbing administrative conduct” at the Bureau.
According to NEFGAD, its representatives visited the NSIB headquarters on 25 November 2025 at about 3:00 p.m. to submit an official document but were told by a receptionist that no staff member was available to receive correspondence. They were advised to return the next day.
However, on returning on 26 November at about 2:00 p.m., the group said they were again informed that no staff member was authorised to receive letters, allegedly based on a directive from the Director-General, Mr. Alex Badeh Jr.
“This repeated inability of a federal institution to perform the most basic administrative function reflects a disturbing culture of negligence and internal disorganisation,” NEFGAD stated. “For an agency with a critical mandate in aviation safety, such behaviour by the Director-General and the NSIB is not only unacceptable but undermines public confidence in its professionalism and operational integrity.”
The organisation described the development as “official irresponsibility” and said it raised serious questions about leadership conduct, internal structure, oversight mechanisms, and staff accountability within the Bureau.
“A Bureau that is unable to receive a simple letter cannot inspire trust in its capacity to handle matters as sensitive and crucial as safety investigations,” the group said.
NEFGAD called on President Bola Tinubu to direct relevant oversight bodies to investigate the situation and ensure corrective action is taken.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and effective governance across public institutions, insisting that Nigerians deserve efficient service delivery from agencies funded with taxpayers’ money.
