NEMA distributes relief materials to 2024 Gombe flood victims

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Gombe Operations Office, has distributed relief materials to residents affected by the 2024 flood disaster in Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency of Gombe State.

The distribution event, which took place on December 15, 2024, at Dadin Kowa, was aimed at alleviating the hardship faced by flood victims in the region.

The relief items provided included a mix of food and non-food materials, carefully designed to address both immediate and longer-term needs. Food items such as rice, beans, and maize were complemented by non-food items, including mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets, and essential household supplies.

The distribution process was a collaborative effort involving multiple stakeholders to ensure transparency and effectiveness. NEMA staff led the initiative with the support of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Gombe, officials from the Yamaltu/Deba Local Government, and representatives of the constituency. The Honourable Member representing Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency was present alongside his legislative aides, lending their support to ensure that the materials reached the intended beneficiaries.

Security personnel were on hand to maintain order, while media representatives and other stakeholders monitored the process to promote accountability. Speaking at the event, the Honourable Member expressed gratitude to NEMA and other partners for their timely intervention, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration in addressing the challenges posed by natural disasters.

Flooding has been a recurring issue in the Yamaltu/Deba region, causing significant displacement, loss of property, and disruption of livelihoods. The relief effort is part of NEMA’s ongoing commitment to providing emergency assistance and fostering resilience among affected communities. Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support, with many noting that the relief materials would greatly help them in rebuilding their lives.

This intervention underscores the need for proactive measures, including improved infrastructure and early warning systems, to mitigate the impact of future disasters. As the affected communities work towards recovery, the efforts by NEMA and its partners provide a beacon of hope and a reminder of the importance of collective action in times of crisis.
