NEMA sends relief to Benue’s Yelwata community after attack

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has dispatched essential relief materials to Yelwata community in Benue State following a recent attack that displaced residents and disrupted livelihoods.

The intervention followed a rapid needs assessment jointly conducted by NEMA, the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and security agencies to evaluate the immediate requirements of affected individuals.

NEMA Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, directed the agency’s North Central Zonal Office, led by Zonal Director Aliyu Waziri, to coordinate the distribution of the relief items in partnership with Benue SEMA. She also mandated a comprehensive assessment of the affected population and infrastructure to determine the need for additional assistance.

Items deployed include food and non-food supplies such as bags of rice, maize, spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, iodized salt, and mattresses.

NEMA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all stakeholders in alleviating the suffering of victims and restoring stability in the affected area.
