The Netherlands has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s ongoing reforms in migration governance and border security.
This was disclosed on Monday during a high-level strategic visit by a Dutch delegation to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Headquarters in Abuja. The team was led by Mr. Jurgen Bartelink, Chargé D’Affaires of the Embassy of the Netherlands.
According to a statement by NIS Public Relations Officer, ACI Akinsola Akinlabi, the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation on migration management, advancing capacity-building initiatives, and formalizing the handover of vital operational tools—including Edison Software license keys and the Passport Examination Program Manual (PEPM III) App.
Bartelink praised the long-standing partnership between both countries and underscored the importance of sustained international cooperation in tackling global migration challenges.
Also in attendance was Mr. Rob Bokhoven, Director of International Affairs for Repatriation and Deportation Services, Netherlands Ministry of Justice and Security, who announced plans to share a mobile border software programme with the NIS. The initiative is expected to provide innovative, technology-driven solutions to strengthen Nigeria’s border control systems.
Responding, Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, expressed gratitude to the Dutch government for its continued support and technical assistance. She noted that the new tools would enhance the Service’s capacity in document verification and border management, aligning with Nigeria’s National Migration Policy.
Nandap emphasized that the collaboration reflects a growing strategic partnership between Nigeria and the Netherlands, anchored on mutual goals in migration governance, border security, and international cooperation.
