Nigeria Customs Service engages with ICT innovations at HUAWEI CONNECT 2023

In recent years, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has become an indispensable part of our digital landscape, enhancing connectivity among individuals and industries. ICT encompasses a wide range of technologies and services, including computing, data management, telecommunications, and the Internet, all aimed at transmitting and receiving information.

The utilization of ICT for customs automation and data-sharing plays a pivotal role in reforming customs procedures, enhancing transparency, and boosting efficiency. To this end, the Nigeria Customs Service actively participated in Huawei’s Annual Global event, HUAWEI CONNECT, held from September 20 to 23, 2023, in Shanghai, China. The event attracted a diverse audience, including government officials, business leaders, tech experts, partners, developers, and industry stakeholders from around the world.

Themed “Accelerating Intelligence for Shared Success,” HUAWEI CONNECT 2023 showcased cutting-edge trends and technologies in the ICT industry, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, cloud computing, and intelligent solutions tailored to various sectors such as finance, government, manufacturing, electric power, and railways.

The event featured keynote addresses, panel discussions, summits, and technical sessions led by industry experts, emphasizing collaboration and innovation as cornerstones of the future ICT landscape. Attendees had the opportunity to explore Huawei’s latest ICT products and solutions, including 5G equipment, cloud computing solutions, and artificial intelligence platforms.

The Nigeria Customs Service delegation actively engaged in networking events, private technical meetings with Huawei experts, and discussions on critical topics such as Technology and AI, digital transformation, cybersecurity, innovation ecosystems, and sustainability. A city tour, including visits to the Liantang Port and insights into Shenzhen customs operations, provided valuable insights into modernization opportunities.

ACG ICT/Modernisation, ACG Adeola, ACG Niagwan, and Dr. Umar Ajilola of the Nigeria Customs Service expressed their enthusiasm for the HUAWEI CONNECT 2023 Shanghai event. They lauded the opportunity to learn about the latest ICT trends and technologies, with plans to incorporate Huawei’s innovations into the NCS Trade Modernization Project. This experience underscores the pivotal role of ICT in shaping the future of customs and trade operations.
