Nigeria Customs Service issues First PAAR under new trade system

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has successfully issued its first Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR) under the newly introduced B’Odogwu Unified Customs Management System. This milestone marks a significant step in the agency’s commitment to modernizing trade processes through technology-driven reforms.

In a statement NCS  National Public Relations Officer Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada said the achievement follows a high-level engagement between Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso. Both institutions reaffirmed their dedication to streamlining trade, enhancing revenue collection, and improving financial integration.

B’Odogwu, developed as an indigenous replacement for the Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System (NICIS II), is designed to enhance efficiency in trade documentation and inter-agency collaboration. The system was piloted at the Port and Terminal Multi-Services Limited (PTML) Customs Area Command, where key stakeholders were actively engaged to ensure a smooth transition.

With the issuance of the first PAAR, the nationwide rollout of B’Odogwu is set to improve trade facilitation and customs procedures. The NCS is also working to finalize approvals and integrate with financial institutions, including Authorized Dealer Banks (ADBs), to enable seamless foreign exchange transactions and trade-related payments.

Under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the NCS appreciates stakeholder support and encourages the trading community to adopt the B’Odogwu platform for a more efficient, transparent, and technology-driven customs process.
