Nigeria Police assures protection of protesters’ rights amidst planned nationwide protest

In anticipation of the proposed nationwide protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has affirmed citizens’ fundamental right to engage in peaceful protest in accordance with existing laws.

In a statement Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi emphasizes its dedication to upholding the rights and freedoms of protesters while maintaining law and order.

To ensure the safety and security of all participants, the NPF has deployed personnel nationwide and placed them on red alert. Commissioners of Police and supervising officers have been briefed and tasked with coordinating on-ground officers effectively.

While acknowledging the importance of peaceful protest, the NPF remains vigilant against any attempts to exploit or hijack such gatherings for malicious purposes. The force asserts its readiness to respond swiftly and firmly to any unlawful activities or acts of violence that could endanger public safety and security.

In light of potential disturbances, the Police have expanded their presence nationwide to prevent any disruptions or chaos. The Inspector-General of Police urges all protest participants to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly, adhering to non-violence principles and respecting the rights of others.

Furthermore, the Inspector-General calls on protest organizers to collaborate with the Police and other relevant security agencies to ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of demonstrations. The NPF reiterates its commitment to facilitating protests in a safe environment conducive to democracy and the rule of law in Nigeria.
