University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), in its continuous pursuit of excellence in Emergency Medicine, has forged a partnership with distinguished medical professionals from the United States to enhance its standards in line with global best practices.
Between February 13th and February 23rd, 2024, a distinguished team of four experts from the Boston Medical Center, led by Dr. Nathanael Smith, MD, Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, conducted a visit to our Emergency Department. Accompanying Dr. Smith were Dr. Noelle Bates, Dr. Chinonso Agubosim, and Dr. Ly Cloessner.

Throughout the two-week duration, these esteemed professionals collaborated closely with our team at UBTH, providing invaluable guidance in patient care, transferring specialized skills, and optimizing bedside ultrasound and ECG techniques to enhance acute care processes, thereby improving diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.
Furthermore, the visiting team conducted a comprehensive assessment, identifying areas for operational refinement and streamlining workflow processes. This collaborative initiative has proven to be mutually beneficial, enriching the skill sets of every member of the healthcare team, refining their approaches, and fostering an ethos of enhanced work ethics.

Demonstrating their commitment to our cause, the visiting team graciously donated a bedside ultrasound machine to the hospital, further elevating our diagnostic capabilities and patient care standards.
This collaborative endeavor underscores UBTH’s unwavering dedication to excellence in emergency medicine, promising substantial benefits for both our patients and the medical professionals involved.
