Nigeria strengthens partnership with China, as President Tinubu hosts Chinese minister

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with China, as President Bola Tinubu hosted Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the State House in Abuja.

Joined by senior officials, including Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar and Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership Director-General Joseph Tegbe, President Tinubu highlighted the elevation of their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership aimed at mutual prosperity.

Director-General Tegbe underscored the strategic nature of Nigeria’s partnership with China, focusing on transforming the trade imbalance and promoting Nigeria as a net exporter to China by 2030. He emphasized China’s role in Nigeria’s industrialization, noting that industrializing Nigeria equates to advancing a quarter of Africa’s economy.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi praised Nigeria’s global influence and pivotal role in Africa’s development. He reiterated China’s commitment to prioritizing Africa in its foreign policy and expressed optimism about deepening cooperation for mutual benefits.

The discussions highlighted the importance of the China-Nigeria partnership, which continues to foster economic growth and development in both nations.
