The Nigerian Army has issued a cautionary notice regarding fraudulent financial solicitations circulating on various social media platforms, falsely attributed to the institution. These deceptive requests claim to be associated with the Nigerian Army, specifically targeting individuals for purported vetting fees concerning trainees undergoing training at the Depot, Nigerian Army, Zaria.
Director, Army Public Relations Major General Onyema Nwachukwu described as fraudulent and criminal, these demands are being made by unidentified individuals seeking funds under false pretenses.
He emphasizes the necessity of addressing this issue promptly to prevent further proliferation.
“Throughout its history, the Nigerian Army has consistently funded and facilitated the training of potential recruits and officer cadets. Consequently, any attempts to extort funds from unsuspecting members of the public, particularly those whose relatives have successfully navigated the stringent screening process and are presently undergoing training, are condemned as acts of serious criminality.
“Such actions not only seek to defraud individuals but also aim to tarnish the reputation of the Nigerian Army” Nwachukwu said.
He strongly advised parents and guardians to disregard any dubious financial requests related to the vetting of trainees and to promptly report any such attempts at exploitation.
The Army spokesman said efforts are already underway to identify the originators of these fraudulent messages and hold them accountable for their actions.
He reiterated the commitment of Nigerian Army to fully financing and supporting the training of potential recruits and officer cadets and urges members of the public to remain vigilant and cautious of potential scams orchestrated by criminals.
