The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army (NA) commenced a series of activities to celebrate its 161st anniversary as part of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2024. Today, the festivities featured a free medical outreach at Comprehensive High School in the Alesa Eleme Community of Rivers State.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, represented by the Commander of the 6 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Eddet Effiong, inaugurated the event. Brigadier General Effiong emphasized that the outreach is a gesture of gratitude towards the Alesa Eleme community for their support in achieving the Army’s operational successes. He highlighted the community’s role in helping the Army maintain a safe environment for lawful citizens by identifying and removing criminal elements.

His Royal Highness, King Sir (Dr) Emperor John Emere Nkpe (JP) Oneh-Eh Alesa X, the Paramount Ruler of Alesa Eleme, expressed his appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and the GOC for selecting his community for this significant initiative. He also called for an end to the senseless killing of soldiers, acknowledging their sacrifices for peace and security.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area, Chief Hon Ajuriebe Brain Gokpa, represented by his Chief of Staff, Comrade Noble Obari Nwolu, lauded the GOC and the NA for the outreach, noting it was the first of its kind in the community. He committed to supporting the Army in maintaining this beneficial initiative.
Colonel Felix Odiase, Commander of the 6 Division Medical Hospital and Services, outlined the services offered, including general consultations, eye check-ups, malaria treatment, and laboratory tests, inviting the community to participate voluntarily.
The event also featured a courtesy call to the royal father, the formal launch of the outreach, inspection of facilities, and group photographs.
