The Nigerian Army has disowned a fake recruitment advertisement circulating on social media and other online platforms, warning the public against falling victim to fraudsters falsely claiming to be conducting applications for the Short Service Combatant Commission (SSCC) Course 50/2027.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army described the advertisement as fraudulent, stressing that it did not originate from the Nigerian Army.
The Army urged prospective applicants and members of the public to disregard the fake notice and avoid dealing with individuals, groups or websites claiming to conduct recruitment or collect money on its behalf.
It reiterated that all recruitment and commissioning exercises into the Nigerian Army are conducted free of charge, transparently and strictly on merit.
According to the statement, official recruitment announcements are made only through national newspapers, the Nigerian Army’s verified social media platforms and other recognised official communication channels.
The Army also emphasised that no application forms are sold and no individual or agent has been authorised to facilitate recruitment or demand payment at any stage of the process.
Warning those behind the fraudulent scheme, the Army said security agencies had been activated to track down, arrest and prosecute everyone involved in producing, circulating or using the fake advertisement to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
It stressed that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
Reaffirming its commitment to preserving the integrity and credibility of its recruitment process, the Nigerian Army advised the public to verify all recruitment information exclusively through its official communication channels.
The Army further urged citizens to promptly report any suspicious recruitment activities to the nearest military formation or relevant security agency to help curb recruitment-related fraud.
