The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed reports linking the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, to an ongoing investigation into alleged visa racketeering, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement, the anti-graft agency said it has no case whatsoever against the Immigration Comptroller-General, stressing that she is not under investigation and has no connection with the ongoing visa fraud cases involving some immigration officers.
The Commission explained that while there are pending cases of alleged visa fraud against some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service before the Federal High Court, investigations remain focused solely on those implicated in the alleged offences.
According to the EFCC, the ongoing probe may lead to the arraignment of additional immigration officers found to have engaged in fraudulent visa-related activities. However, it emphasized that Nandap is “not remotely connected” to the investigations.
The Commission also urged media organisations to verify information relating to its operations before publication, warning that inaccurate reports and unfounded insinuations could mislead the public and distort the facts surrounding its investigations.
