Nigerian Navy appoints new spokesperson

In a recent announcement, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla Admiralty Medal, the Chief of the Naval Staff, has approved the appointment of Commodore Aiwuyor Augustine Adams-Aliu as the new Director of Naval Information and official Spokesperson for the Nigerian Navy.

In an official statement Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral JD Akpan said the appointment was effective from Friday, 22nd March 2024.

Commodore Adams-Aliu succeeds Rear Admiral Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan, who has been redeployed to Headquarters Naval Training Command as the Chief Staff Officer.

Born on 15th December 1977 in Lagos, Commodore Aiwuyor Augustine Adams-Aliu brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. Hailing from a family with a journalistic background, he developed a keen interest in public speaking and media relations from an early age, influenced by his father’s career as a veteran journalist.

Commodore Adams-Aliu’s educational journey includes attending Shepherd Hill Primary School and Kings College Lagos before joining the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1995. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry in 1999 and was commissioned into the Nigerian Navy in 2000 as a member of the 47 Regular Course.

Throughout his career, Commodore Adams-Aliu has undergone extensive professional training, including attending the Captain Career Course at the United States Army Infantry School in Atlanta from 2007 to 2008. He also completed the Junior and Senior Staff Courses at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, in 2004 and 2010, respectively. Furthermore, he graduated from the Naval War College Nigeria in 2018 and the United States Naval War College in 2019.

His operational experience includes serving as a Watch Keeping Officer onboard various Nigerian Navy Ships from 2000 to 2004 and as a military observer in the United Nations Mission in Liberia from 2011 to 2012. He also held positions such as Officer in Charge of Nigerian Navy Ship BENIN, Squadron Commander of SHALDAG Boat squadron, and Commanding Officer of Nigerian Navy Ship KARADUWA.

Commodore Adams-Aliu’s dedication to his profession led him to further academic pursuits, earning a Master of Arts Degree in Strategic Security Studies from the National Defence University, Washington DC, in 2021. He subsequently served as a Directing Staff and Member of Faculty at the Naval War College Nigeria before assuming various leadership roles, including Commanding Officer Forward Operating Base BADAGRY and Deputy Director Plans at Naval Headquarters.

His exemplary service has been recognized with several awards and decorations, including the Passed Staff Course, Meritorious Service Star, United Nations Medal, Nigerian Navy Command at Sea Badge, and Distinguished Fellow of the Naval War College. He is also actively involved in professional organizations such as the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM), Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), International Institute of Professional Security (IIPS), and the United States Naval Institute (USNI).

Commodore Adams-Aliu is married to Dr. Loretta, and they are blessed with three children. With his vast experience and commendable track record, he is poised to excel in his new role as the Director of Naval Information and official Spokesperson for the Nigerian Navy.
