Atiku condemns killing of scores in Niger State, calls for urgent security measures

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the recent massacre in Madaka village, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, where scores of individuals, including the village head, were killed, and an unspecified number of people were abducted by suspected bandits.

Atiku expressed profound sorrow over the tragic incident, describing Nigeria as a “killing field” and emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced security measures. He emphasized that despite assurances, insecurity remains a pressing issue in the country.

“Atiku condemns the killing of scores of persons, including the village head, and the abduction of an unspecified number of people in Madaka, Niger State,” the statement read.

The former Vice President called for prioritizing security and urged expedited efforts towards constitutional amendments to facilitate the establishment of State Police. He emphasized that such a measure would empower states and local authorities to deploy security mechanisms tailored to their specific needs, thus addressing the multifaceted challenges of insecurity across the nation.

“We have to prioritize security and speed up the process of a constitutional amendment that will introduce State Police so that states and local authorities can deploy mechanisms that best suit their environment in tackling this hydra-headed insecurity in our land,” Atiku stated.

Expressing solidarity with the affected families and the government and people of Niger State, Atiku extended his thoughts and prayers to those affected by the tragic events.

The call for urgent action comes amidst escalating concerns over security across Nigeria, with various regions experiencing heightened levels of violence and criminal activities.
