Nigerian Navy apprehends four stowaways aboard MT high seas

Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT has successfully apprehended four stowaways who were discovered onboard the vessel MT HIGH SEAS. Following the interception, the stowaways were promptly handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service, Port/Marine Command Apapa, located in Lagos State, on Friday, May 3, 2024.

This latest incident follows a press statement released by the Nigerian Navy on April 17, 2024, highlighting the escalating challenge of stowaways within Lagos waters. Migration via stowaway methods continues to be illegal, perilous, and poses a significant security threat to the nation’s prosperity.

The Nigerian Navy reiterates the inherent dangers associated with attempting to travel as a stowaway. These risks include severe legal repercussions, substantial health hazards such as exposure to harsh weather conditions, deprivation of essential necessities like food and water, potential injuries, and even fatalities. Consequently, the Nigerian Navy strongly advises Nigerian youths to refrain from undertaking such perilous endeavors.

The apprehension of these stowaways underscores the ongoing efforts of maritime authorities to combat illegal migration and safeguard both national security and the well-being of individuals.
