Nigerian Navy “Operation Delta Sanity” yields successful interceptions and deactivations in Akwa Ibom, Delta and Bayelsa

In a concerted effort to combat illicit activities within the maritime domain, Operation Delta Sanity, led by various security forces, achieved significant milestones on Thursday, March 7, 2024 as Forward Operating Base Ibaka, situated in Akwa Ibom State, intercepted a boat carrying approximately 3,500 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) along the Oron Channel.

According to sources, the operation was executed in strict adherence to established directives governing such engagements.

Simultaneously, Forward Operating Base Escravos, operating in Delta State, successfully located and neutralized an Illegal Refining Site. The site, nestled along Deli Creek in Warri Local Government Area, contained an estimated 40,000 litres of illegally refined products. This intervention marks a crucial step in curtailing the proliferation of illicit refineries within the region.

Furthermore, Nigerian Navy Ship Soroh, operating in Bayelsa State, made significant headway in the ongoing operation. On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, the naval unit uncovered and deactivated another Illegal Refining Site. The site, located in the Gbaram general area, harbored approximately 23,500 litres of crude oil, alongside 250 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO). Additionally, the discovery included various equipment such as an oven, pumping machines, pipes, and drums, indicative of extensive illegal refining activities.

These commendable efforts underscore the unwavering commitment of security forces in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests and curbing illicit activities detrimental to environmental and economic well-being. Operation Delta Sanity continues to demonstrate its effectiveness in maintaining peace, security, and stability within the region.
