Nigerians urge immediate end to economic blockade on Cuba

In solidarity with Cuba’s recent electricity crisis and the devastation left by Hurricane Oscar, the Nigerian-Cuban Graduates Association has called for an immediate end to the U.S.-imposed economic blockade on Cuba.

In a letter to the Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, Miriam Morales Palmero, Association President Dr. Olaitan Fafure and Secretary Dr. Adie Patrick Adie expressed deep support for the Cuban people and emphasized the blockade’s damaging impact.

The letter commended Cuba’s resilience in managing ongoing crises despite the blockade, stating: “We extend our heartfelt solidarity and support to the government and people of Cuba as they confront the recent electricity crisis and the devastation caused by Hurricane Oscar. We stand with Cuba in these challenging times, recognizing the resilience and courage with which the Cuban people and government have continued to address these difficulties.”

The Association highlighted the severe limitations the blockade imposes on Cuba’s ability to respond to infrastructure and energy needs, particularly in the wake of natural disasters. “We urge the United States to lift this blockade and allow Cuba the economic freedom to rebuild and enhance the lives of its people effectively,” the letter continued.

As graduates who have benefited from Cuban education and support, the association pledged to join the global call for cooperation, peace, and development through mutual respect and understanding. They expressed confidence that, if lifted, the end of the blockade would enable Cuba to further strengthen its infrastructure and better prepare for future challenges.

The Association requested that Ambassador Palmero relay their message of solidarity to the Cuban government and people, affirming that Cuba can emerge stronger with the support of the international community.
