In a significant contribution towards the Federal Government’s push to enhance the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a fuel source nationwide, the NNPC Ltd, through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm, NNPC Foundation, has donated 10 CNG-powered buses. This initiative is designed to help mitigate transportation challenges faced by Nigerians and promote environmental sustainability.
The donation was made under the auspices of the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) Initiative on CNG. The Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, who handed over the buses on behalf of the company, highlighted the strategic importance of this gesture. She noted that the donation is part of NNPC’s broader commitment to supporting national efforts aimed at transitioning to cleaner and more affordable energy sources.
Mrs. Arukwe explained that the deployment of these CNG buses is expected to provide a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly transportation option for Nigerians. By promoting the use of CNG, the initiative not only aims to reduce the nation’s carbon footprint but also to diversify energy sources, thereby enhancing energy security and contributing to the overall economic stability of the country.
The NNPC Foundation’s collaboration with DAPPMAN underscores the importance of private sector involvement in driving national initiatives that align with global sustainability goals. The initiative is anticipated to set a precedent for further investments in alternative energy solutions, as the country seeks to reduce its reliance on traditional fossil fuels.
The donation also reflects NNPC’s commitment to addressing some of the immediate challenges faced by Nigerians, particularly in the area of transportation, which remains a critical sector for economic growth and social development. By providing these CNG buses, the NNPC Foundation aims to ease the burden of transportation costs on the average Nigerian, while simultaneously promoting a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
This initiative is expected to pave the way for similar collaborations between government agencies, private sector players, and non-governmental organizations, all working together to achieve a common goal of sustainable development and economic resilience in Nigeria.
