NNPC Gas Marketing, BUA partner on Mini-LNG plant to boost domestic gas use

In a strategic move to enhance domestic gas utilization, NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML) and BUA Group have signed a shareholders’ agreement for the development of a 45 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d) Mini-LNG plant in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. The project is expected to improve gas supply for industries and businesses across Nigeria.

The agreement was formalized at a signing ceremony held at NGML’s headquarters in Abuja. The event was attended by BUA Group’s Group Executive Director, Kabiru Rabiu, and Group Chief Legal Officer, Oluseye Alayande, alongside NGML’s management team, led by Managing Director Justin Ezeala.

Project Significance

The Mini-LNG plant will play a crucial role in boosting domestic gas availability, supporting Nigeria’s gas-to-power initiative, and driving industrial growth. By expanding access to liquefied natural gas (LNG), the project aims to reduce dependence on imported fuels and enhance energy security for businesses in manufacturing, transportation, and power generation.

Economic and Energy Impact

Nigeria has been pushing for increased utilization of its vast natural gas reserves to transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy mix. The NNPC-BUA partnership aligns with the federal government’s “Decade of Gas” initiative, which promotes gas as a key driver of economic development.

The project is expected to create jobs, attract investments, and support small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) by providing affordable and reliable energy solutions. Additionally, the initiative will reduce flaring, contributing to Nigeria’s climate action goals and ensuring a more environmentally friendly energy landscape.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s quest for energy self-sufficiency, reinforcing public-private partnerships as a catalyst for economic progress.
