In a significant step towards advancing the development of a crucial natural gas pipeline project, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC Ltd.) and the Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines (ONHYM) of Morocco engaged in intensified discussions during a meeting held on the sidelines of a broader engagement between key officials.
The meeting, attended by the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, and the Honourable Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of the Kingdom of Morocco, H.E. Ms. Leila Benali, took place in Rabat. The discussions were orchestrated to hasten activities leading to the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the project.


Chaired by the Director-General of ONHYM, Mme. Amina Benkhadra, and NNPC Ltd.’s Executive Vice President of Gas, Power, and New Energy, Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye, the deliberations concentrated on accelerating the FID and initiating project execution. The focal points of the discussions included Gas Supply, Front End Engineering Design (FEED), Survey, Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), and optimizing project costs.
The collaborative efforts underscore the commitment of both NNPC Ltd. and ONHYM to streamline processes and overcome potential challenges, ensuring a smooth progression towards the realization of this pivotal natural gas pipeline project. The project’s successful execution holds significant implications for the energy landscape and bilateral relations between Nigeria and Morocco.
