NNPC, NSChE to deepen collaboration on energy sector growth

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) and the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE) have agreed to strengthen strategic collaboration aimed at advancing Nigeria’s energy sector through innovation, safety, and sustainable development.

During a courtesy visit to the NNPC Towers in Abuja, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, received the NSChE delegation led by its National President, Engr. Olarewaju-Alo B. Olumuyiwa. Discussions centred on priority areas, including improving process safety standards, accelerating refinery upgrades, promoting industrialisation, and embedding sustainability in the country’s energy value chain.

The NSChE showcased key initiatives, notably the Process Safety Initiative of Nigeria (PSIN), which seeks to entrench global best practices in plant operations, reduce risks, and enhance operational reliability across Nigeria’s process industries. The Society also outlined its ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between academia and industry, ensuring that engineering graduates are better equipped with practical skills to meet the demands of the evolving energy landscape.

Engr. Ojulari commended the NSChE for its proactive role in promoting engineering excellence and reaffirmed NNPC Ltd.’s readiness to partner on projects that would deliver long-term value to the industry and the nation. He stressed the importance of homegrown solutions, technology transfer, and capacity building in achieving Nigeria’s energy security and transition goals.

Both parties agreed to explore joint programmes in research, professional training, and policy advocacy, with the objective of creating a safer, more competitive, and technologically advanced energy sector.

The engagement reflects NNPC Ltd.’s broader strategy of working closely with professional bodies, industry stakeholders, and academic institutions to foster innovation, optimise operations, and contribute to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
