Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC Limited has commissioned and handed over three rehabilitated 100-bed capacity wards to National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, as part of efforts to enhance healthcare delivery through its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The project, executed by NNPC Foundation Ltd./Gte., involved the comprehensive upgrade of Wards G, H, and J, including the installation of new hospital beds and a central medical gas system to improve patient care standards.
The rehabilitation works also covered the replacement of roofing and ceilings, upgrades to electrical and mechanical systems, and installation of modern vinyl flooring across the three wards.
Hospital authorities noted that prior to the intervention, the facilities were in poor condition, limiting their functionality and reducing in-patient capacity.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, represented by Chief Financial Officer Adedapo Segun, said the company’s definition of profitability extends beyond revenue generation to include measurable social impact.
He described the project as a significant contribution to improving healthcare infrastructure and service delivery.
Managing Director of the NNPC Foundation, Emmanuella Arukwe, said the intervention underscores the organisation’s commitment to practical initiatives that align with national healthcare priorities.
She added that the upgrade strengthens a long-standing medical institution that has served Nigerians for decades.
In his remarks, Medical Director of the hospital, Wakeel Lawal, disclosed that the hospital had sought intervention due to the deteriorating condition of the wards.

He commended NNPC Limited for what he described as an “outstanding transformation,” noting that the project represents more than infrastructure renewal, but a restoration of hope.
The event was attended by senior officials, including Executive Vice President, Business Services at NNPC Limited, Sophia Mbakwe, and featured the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.
Traditional representation at the ceremony included Rodiyallahu Alabi Yunusa, who stood in for Kazeem Bashua as Royal Father of the Day.
