NNPC retail debunks “Lubricants-for-Petrol” claims, launches probe

NNPC Retail Limited has addressed a viral video circulating on social media, specifically on X, where a fuel pump attendant at an NNPC filling station allegedly coerced customers into purchasing lubricants or engine oil as a prerequisite for buying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol.
In a statement, Olufemi Soneye Chief Corporate Communications Officer NNPC Ltd. Abuja said the attendant claimed this directive came from NNPC Retail Management.

NNPC Retail has firmly refuted this claim, stating it is entirely false and does not reflect the company’s Customer Service Charter. According to NNPC Retail, customers are not required to purchase any additional products, such as lubricants or engine oil, in order to buy PMS at any of its stations.

Managing Director of NNPC Retail Ltd, Mr. Huub Stokman, emphasized the company’s commitment to transparent and quality service, ensuring that customers’ needs are met without any unnecessary conditions. “We are dedicated to providing clear, transparent, and quality service to all our customers,” Stokman stated.

NNPC Retail urges the public to disregard the misinformation and to report any similar incidents to the appropriate authorities. The company has initiated an investigation into the incident and promises appropriate disciplinary action against those involved.
