The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has unveiled a range of investment opportunities along the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline corridor as part of efforts to accelerate domestic gas utilisation and expand Nigeria’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) economy.
The opportunities were presented at the 2026 Energy Business Development Forum held on Thursday at the Government House in Minna, Niger State. The forum, themed “Accelerating Domestic Gas Utilisation and Driving the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Revolution along the AKK Corridor,” brought together state governments, traditional and community leaders, private investors and energy sector operators.
Speaking at the event, NNPC Limited’s Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and New Energy, Olalekan Ogunleye, disclosed that the AKK Gas Pipeline has reached Abuja and is scheduled to be commissioned in phases later this year.
He further revealed that pipeline laying has been completed in the Kano axis, while construction in the Niger State section is expected to be concluded before the end of the year, marking significant progress on one of Nigeria’s flagship gas infrastructure projects.
Ogunleye said the project is expected to unlock substantial investment opportunities, deepen domestic gas utilisation, stimulate industrial growth and support the Federal Government’s drive to expand cleaner energy adoption through the CNG initiative.
Also speaking, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago announced that the state government has earmarked an Industrial Development Park within the 1,000-square-kilometre stretch of the AKK corridor in the state.
According to the governor, the state’s unique combination of natural gas resources, hydropower and solar energy provides a strong foundation for attracting investments in agro-processing, petrochemicals, fertiliser production and other energy-intensive industries.
The AKK Gas Pipeline is a 614-kilometre, 40-inch transmission pipeline extending from Ajaokuta in Kogi State to Kano. The project includes intermediate and terminal gas facilities designed to transport natural gas to industries and other off-takers, and is expected to play a pivotal role in boosting industrialisation, energy security and economic development across northern Nigeria.
