In a statement, Isaac Abrak, the association’s chairman, highlighted the importance of redirecting funds to improve the lives of Nigerians, particularly the less privileged. He emphasized the need for states and local governments to use these funds more efficiently, citing the recent #EndBadGovernance protest as evidence of public dissatisfaction.
Abrak pointed to the substantial financial allocations received by federal, state, and local governments, including a total of N10.13 trillion disbursed from January to May, and the distribution of food commodities to alleviate the crisis. However, he noted that the impact of these measures has been insufficient, urging a review of distribution mechanisms to ensure aid reaches those in need.
He called for greater accountability from various distribution networks, including religious and civil society groups, and warned against politicizing palliative distribution. Abrak encouraged constructive criticism and self-examination, urging an end to the protests and collaboration to ensure the benefits of subsidy removal reach all Nigerians, especially the most vulnerable.
