The Russian Embassy in Nigeria has issued an official statement addressing recent media reports and digital media content showing protesters in northern Nigeria displaying Russian flags and chanting slogans directed at Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Embassy clarified that neither the Government of the Russian Federation nor any Russian officials are involved in or have coordinated these actions.

The Embassy emphasized Russia’s established policy of non-interference in the domestic affairs of other nations, including Nigeria. The display of Russian symbols by some protesters was characterized as a personal choice that does not reflect the official stance or policy of the Russian government.
The statement reaffirmed Russia’s respect for Nigerian sovereignty and democracy, underscoring the importance of peaceful demonstrations conducted in accordance with Nigerian law. The Embassy also stressed that it strongly condemns any disruptions or acts of violence that may occur in connection with these events.
