The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in collaboration with Japan’s National Police Agency (NPA), has intensified efforts to combat cybercrime, leading to the arrest of 11 suspects involved in various cyber-related offenses.
In a statement Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the NPF National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), officials during a press briefing highlighted the success of the joint operation, which targeted criminals engaged in identity theft, romance scams, and computer-related fraud that victimized Japanese nationals.
On April 3, 2024, the NPF-NCCC, in partnership with Nigeria’s National Central Bureau (NCB) and NCB Tokyo, received reports linking 13 cybercriminals operating from Nigeria to five separate cases. The illicit proceeds were converted into cryptocurrency and funneled into various digital wallets in Nigeria.
Authorities have so far recovered $33,320, with ongoing efforts to retrieve additional stolen funds and dismantle the syndicate.
Reaffirming its commitment to combating cybercrime, the NPF emphasized its resolve to deploy advanced technology and international cooperation to ensure a safer digital space.
