The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has cautioned its personnel and the general public against lobbying for special promotions, warning that such actions are unethical and will attract disciplinary sanctions.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF expressed concern over the increasing number of unofficial requests and lobbying directed at the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission by officers seeking accelerated promotions.
The trend, according to the statement, was triggered by recent misleading media reports that falsely suggested the commencement of a general special promotion scheme. The Force clarified that the recent accelerated promotions were awarded strictly to deserving officers who had demonstrated exceptional bravery, professionalism, and commitment to duty in line with an established reward system.
“These promotions were not arbitrary. They were based on verifiable merit, in accordance with standardised guidelines,” the statement emphasized.
The NPF also debunked what it described as “baseless and misleading” claims by a specific online platform alleging arbitrary promotions within the Force. It urged the public to disregard such falsehoods, which it said were intended to undermine the integrity of its promotion process.
The statement further warned officers against attempting to influence the process through unofficial channels, reiterating that such conduct violates professional ethics and the core values of meritocracy.
The Force reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, due process, and honourable service, urging all personnel to maintain discipline, remain dedicated, and continue to uphold the highest standards in the discharge of their duties.
