The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Dr. Abubakar Audi has emphasized that Nigeria’s path to realizing its vast potential as a great nation hinge on embracing a culture of peace and peaceful coexistence. He made this statement on the occasion of the International Day of Peace, extending his warm wishes to all peace-loving Nigerians.
Audi, as conveyed in a statement by NSCDC spokesperson Babawale Afolabi, highlighted the significance of celebrating the International Day of Peace, aiming to cultivate a global culture of peace and non-violence. This celebration serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of conflicts, wars, and violence, urging people to pursue initiatives for cease-fire. The International Day of Peace is observed worldwide on September 21st each year.
This year’s theme, “Action for Peace: Our Ambition for the Global Goals,” underscores the commitment to peace. Audi emphasized that NSCDC units nationwide are commemorating this day through various activities aimed at promoting peace, tolerance, and non-violent approaches to conflict resolution.
Audi called on all Nigerians to embrace the spirit of tolerance and peace, fostering a win-win environment for the prosperity of Nigeria. He also encouraged peace practitioners to raise awareness about the destructive impacts of violent conflicts and advocate for dialogue, recognizing that peace is not merely the absence of war but a virtue, a mindset, and a disposition towards benevolence, confidence, and justice.
