NUJ FCT trains 100 journalists on digital storytelling tools

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Federal Capital Territory Council has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the capacity of media practitioners through continuous professional development and exposure to modern digital communication tools.

Chairman of the Council, Grace Ike, stated this on Monday while declaring open a one-day media capacity-building workshop organised in collaboration with Adobe and Lifestyle Hues in Abuja.

The training brought together 100 journalists from both public and private media organisations within the Federal Capital Territory and focused on the use of Adobe Express and other digital tools for enhanced storytelling, multimedia production and content creation.

Ike said the media landscape was evolving rapidly, noting that journalists must continually adapt to emerging technologies and new modes of information delivery.

She described the initiative as part of ongoing efforts to ensure media professionals remain competitive and relevant in a digital-first environment, where visual storytelling and multimedia presentation have become central to effective reporting.

According to her, digital tools such as Adobe Express have become essential instruments for modern journalism, particularly in producing engaging and audience-driven content.

The NUJ FCT chairman commended the organisers and facilitators for partnering with the Council, urging participants to fully utilise the knowledge gained to improve newsroom productivity and output quality.

Facilitator of the training, Ayodotun Akinfenwa, said the workshop was designed to equip journalists and content creators with practical skills required in today’s digital media environment.

She noted that effective use of digital tools enhances productivity, improves visibility and enables journalists to reach wider audiences across online platforms.

Akinfenwa emphasised that digital storytelling and social media engagement have become critical to modern journalism, adding that practitioners who fail to embrace online tools risk reduced relevance in an increasingly digital public space.

She also stressed that faster and more efficient dissemination of information contributes significantly to societal development and economic progress.

The facilitator called on media organisations to invest more in continuous training, particularly in areas such as digital communication technologies, artificial intelligence tools and content publishing systems.

Participants at the workshop described the programme as timely and impactful, calling for sustained training initiatives to further enhance professional competence among journalists in Nigeria.
