Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has made serious allegations against David Imuse, the Chairman of the Edo chapter of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), and the Party.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, the Governor expressed deep concern over what he perceives as a lack of sensitivity towards the hardships faced by Nigerians, particularly as the Party appears to be overseeing what he calls the “dismantling of Nigeria.”
Obaseki remarked that he found it disheartening to read a statement from Col. David Imuse, the Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the APC, whose party, according to him, has brought the entire state and the entire country into a state of pervasive gloom and constant fear for the future.
He criticized Imuse’s statement as an insult to the people of Edo State and all Nigerians, especially considering that it is the APC that is allegedly responsible for the gradual decline of the Nigerian State. Obaseki highlighted some distressing economic indicators, such as the soaring fuel prices from N159 to N700 per liter, the drastic devaluation of the Naira against foreign currencies, and the overall struggling state of the nation, which he attributes to the APC’s governance.
Instead of offering apologies for the party’s perceived failure in managing the country’s affairs, Obaseki accused Imuse of displaying arrogance, grandstanding, and attempting to shift the blame for the suffering of the masses onto an innocent Governor who, in his view, has been working diligently to manage the Edo economy and prevent a descent into chaos.
Regarding the issue of N16 billion allegedly refunded to the Edo State Government from Adams Oshiomhole’s intervention in the repair of Federal Roads when he was governor, Obaseki argued that Imuse conveniently omitted the fact that Oshiomhole left the state with a debt of N160 billion, much of which was spent on extravagant events, including the so-called Federal Roads projects. This, according to Obaseki, came at the expense of much-needed infrastructure and economic development in the State.
The Governor called on Imuse to show some consideration for the suffering of innocent Nigerians who bear the brunt of poorly maintained Federal Roads in Edo State. He urged the Federal Government to fulfill its responsibility of safeguarding the lives and properties of the citizens.
