Gwarzo secures NDC governorship ticket in Kano

Former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic (NDC) ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The announcement was made on Friday by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, spokesperson to the former deputy governor, who disclosed that Gwarzo would be formally affirmed alongside other candidates of the party during an affirmation ceremony scheduled for the same day.

According to Shuaibu, the event will feature the affirmation of candidates contesting for seats in the State Houses of Assembly, the National Assembly, governorship positions, and the presidency.

Gwarzo, a seasoned politician and administrator, brings extensive experience in governance and grassroots politics to the governorship race. He previously served as Deputy Governor of Kano State and was twice elected chairman of a local government council in the state.

He also served as commissioner in four different ministries within the Kano State Government, where he contributed to policy formulation and implementation across key sectors.

Beyond state politics, Gwarzo has held national appointments, including membership of the National Assembly Service Commission and Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal College of Education, Kontagora.

His spokesperson described him as one of Kano State’s most experienced political figures, noting that his emergence is expected to strengthen the NDC’s political base and campaign efforts ahead of the elections.

Party supporters also expressed optimism that Gwarzo’s political network, administrative background, and grassroots appeal would position the NDC as a formidable contender in the governorship contest.
