Chief Simeon Okeke, the inaugural Chairman of the Police Service Commission, on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 paid a visit to the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters located in Jabi, Abuja. During his visit, he commended the current Chairman, Dr. Solomon Arase, a retired Inspector General of Police, for his remarkable achievements in pioneering the Commission.
Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations at the PSC, reported that Chief Okeke was thoroughly impressed by the complete transformation the Commission had undergone under Dr. Arase’s leadership. Chief Okeke earnestly appealed to the Federal Government to provide assistance to the new Chairman in addressing the accumulating debts that the Commission is currently grappling with. These debts are related to unpaid allowances owed to the staff for their dedicated service over the course of several years prior to Dr. Arase assuming his role. Chief Okeke emphasized that this gesture from the Government would not only motivate the staff to remain devoted to their duties but also facilitate Dr. Arase’s pursuit of his mission within the Commission.
During an impromptu courtesy visit to Dr. Arase, Chief Okeke expressed his admiration for the transformation evident in the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters. He lauded Dr. Arase’s unwavering determination and dedication to transforming the Commission into a beacon of success. He reminisced about Dr. Arase’s resilience and determination as a police officer and noted that he possesses the qualities required to surmount challenges. Chief Okeke acknowledged that Dr. Arase’s entry into the position of Chairman must have been accompanied by significant obstacles, all of which he has triumphed over.
Chief Okeke emphatically affirmed that Dr. Arase has effectively fulfilled his responsibilities within the Commission, highlighting his happiness at witnessing the staff engaged in their work as proprietors rather than as tenants. He urged both the staff and future appointees to work collaboratively with the Chairman to restore the Commission’s esteemed reputation.
