IGP reaffirms dedication to restoring order to highways and police procedures

The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reiterated his administration’s strong commitment to bringing back discipline and efficiency to the country’s highways and police operations. In response to the importance of safe and smooth road networks, the IGP has instructed the enhanced Monitoring Unit and X-Squad operatives, along with senior officers, to carefully evaluate critical checkpoints on highways. The aim is to ensure well-placed and well-managed checkpoints that are free from corruption, while minimizing public inconvenience and maintaining safety.

Addressing concerns about disruptive checkpoints and potential misconduct by officers, the IGP emphasized the necessity of checkpoints for visible policing that effectively addresses contemporary challenges. He acknowledged the occasional inconvenience caused but emphasized their role in achieving anti-crime objectives. The IGP urged the public to cooperate with officers for the greater good and assured that supervisory officers would enforce professionalism and ethical conduct, leveraging technology and intelligence for efficient operations.
