Former Deputy President of the 9th Senate and Delta Central senatorial candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has raised the alarm over what he described as “disturbing and increasingly credible threats” to his life and those of his family members.
Omo-Agege, in a statement issued as he commenced his campaign activities in Uvwie Local Government Area on Wednesday, called on Nigerians, the international community, civil society organisations, the media and security agencies to take formal notice of the alleged threats.
The former senator alleged that the threats were emanating from the Delta State Government House in Asaba, expressing concern over his safety and that of his family as he begins campaign visits across Uvwie and the other seven local government areas in Delta Central Senatorial District.
He specifically named Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, whom he said should be held responsible and accountable if any harm comes to him or members of his family.
“Should anything untoward happen to me or members of my family, the Nigerian people and, more particularly, the Urhobo people of Delta Central Senatorial District should hold the Governor of Delta State, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, responsible and accountable,” Omo-Agege said.
He urged security agencies and other relevant authorities to take the allegations seriously and ensure adequate protection for him and his family as the campaign season progresses.
The statement comes amid heightened political activities in Delta State, with Omo-Agege seeking to represent Delta Central Senatorial District.
